1963 WASHINGTON PROOF QUARTER WITH A STRANGE RIM ANOMALY
Hello CONECA, I was reviewing some recent purchases and found an interesting 1963 Washington Proof Quarter, It was graded by PCGS PR66 with cert 51817473. It is a Gold Shield and high definition pics are available. The coin has an anomaly at 9 o'clock on the rim which is highly visable. I think it is some kind of planchet faw but really don't know. PCGS grade it so it must not be post mint damage. Thoughts or comments?Tags: None

In my opinion, it could be a minor partial collar or, a piece of metal from this coin or another was shaved off by the collar and during the strike, as the metal expanded around the collar, it attached to this coin. It would have been great to have a photo of the reeded edge but, this is my guess.Last edited by MintErrors; 11-22-2025, 03:34 AM.
