  • Dropped Letters on J. Adams Dollar

I have four 2008 D J.Adams Dollars with extra letters on the edge. Each one has different letters and some have more then others. Are these dropped letters or was it double stamped. The 1st coin(1st pic) has an I. The 2nd coin(2nd pic) has a backwards R next to IN. 3rd coin(3rd,4th,5th pics) has a E, S, faint B and others that are very faint. The 4th coin(pics in new post)has an E. Just would like to know if its something nice or is it rare like the plain edge dollars. Thanks for the help. These all came from the same bank here in California.

A mirror image is indicative of a transfered letter by force, or in other words, post mint damage which occurred from one coin hitting another. This appears to be the case with the pictures that you have shown.

Even the last coin, I understand when you say mirror image, but the last 3 pics all the letters and even the very faint one's are in the same direction. The extra S is raised, does that happen when the metal is drawn into the other coins letter. Thank you

Since the letters on the edge are incused, post mint transfer will be a raised letter or number. I went back and took a look at all your pictures again and from what I can see, they are all mirror images.
