  • 2005 Kansas Quarter--Lump on Bison Nose.

This coin belongs to Jeff, a friend of mine. He found two of them in a roll of Kansas quarters and wants to know what caused the lump. I think it is a large die chip, but would like to get other opinions if possible. I was also wandering if anyone else out there had found any like it. It is a pretty large and odd looking lump, and should be easy to spot. I would appreciate any opinions or comments.

It looks like die damage with an associated die chip. The field portion of the die appears to have been sharply dented by a hard piece of debris and this caused a piece of the die next to the bison's nose to break off.
