  • Victoria love token with error?

    Hi,

Maybe you can help me to identify the date of this token. If you know what is the sign on the other side, let me a comment please.

    It is a numismatic error?

I don't think it is a damage. Exemple, N have no bar and there are no shape or scratch where the metal was suppose to be. It's simply smooth as the remainder of surface. Letter D is like that too but I'm not an expert. Beads are more longer in this region too. Look like double beads. Beginig under N of CANADA to T of GRATIA. G and N of REGINA look like C and N of CANADA... missing some metal on top.

What do you think about this token ?

    Thanks.

I have no idea regarding the N or D but that jewelers solder spot is what really sticks out.

The obverse of the coin from what I've found, could be if silver composition a Canadian 20 cent piece,1858, if of copper composition could be Canadian cent 1858-1859, the blob of solder or what ever is pobably to hold a chain and used as a necklace. the reverse engraved.

I have to post a correction, The coin is not a cent as the cent does not have a reeded edge, there are two other possibility, 5 cent 1858 -1901, 10 cent 1858 - 1901

          Yes,

It's probably a Canadian dime 1858 - 1901 but i don't know if it is possible to have the date of this token.

Some, don't give a big value for this type of coins but for me it is a very beautiful "Love Token". If there are a numismatic error on... i think it valuable and very rare... but i'm not an expert. If you look at the bottom right, on the border, it seems to have double beads... i think it is not possible to a person to make something like that... the N of CaNada have no bottom bar and there are no scratch... There are lot of gray, green, blue and orange color when you look with a loop. It's like an age high-class wine.

          Thanks for your comment.

            Hi,

Someone on other forum say it may be a Hub Break... It explain the missing metal on letters. Is it? Do you know what is it exactly?

            Thanks.

The reverse of the coin was ground off and engraved. The obverse has solder on it.

                Hi,

Maybe someone can modify a coin, but i don't think he can remove metal on it. This token was made more than 100 years ago.

                Thanks.

Incomplete letters can be due to a filled die, an overpolished die, or, far less frequently, a chipped working hub. Without clear photos taken through a microscope, there's no way for anybody to determine why they're incomplete.

                    Hi,

I add an image with more détails.

There are something like a very large S trace near the nose of Victoria Queen. I don't know if it's important but you can see 2 images of it. All A of CANADA seems to have a base problem too.

                    Thanks.

I suspect the "incomplete" letters are simply damaged. The sinuous shape near Vicky's nose is probably a random bit of discoloration or damage.

Even if this were a massive doubled die, the added premium, if any, is in it being a "love token". Once a coin is converted into a piece of jewelry (especially one that has a lot of manipulation as love tokens do), it ceases to have any or little numismatic value.

                          Hi,

For me, because i have the token and i can see it, i think it is impossible to have damage the token like this. If someone was able to do that, he will not cut just a little part of letters... but modify it perfectly. All surface around letters is intact. The only trace is near the nose of Victoria Queen. There are a little metal dot on top of this token (on the side, in center, just over Victoria Queen). Maybe it was a medal before. If i can find what is the emblem on the other side, maybe i will understand what it is. It seem to be a crown on the top of F or E. C is like a horseshoe. This design and quality of this emblem was not made by anyone.

For the value, it's not important for me... The value of something is the value that someone pay for... If it is a "Love token"... i like the idea that someone made a Love Token with a coin having numismatic error without date. I think that it was also a mark of large respect for the Victoria Queen. Remember that you see it with a big zoom. This token is very little, like a dime.

                          Thanks for your comments.
