It looks like the surface on both faces was abraded in some fashion. Either that, or the coin was a "pocket piece" that someone carried around with them and constantly manipulated. The central part of the design on the reverse face looks unnaturally flat and devoid of the tumbling marks you'd expect of a genuine weak strike, whether that weakness was due to a low-pressure strike or a thin planchet. Furthermore, I see clear reeding on the edge, which is incompatible with a strike this weak.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
