  • 2009 Coconut Quarter ???

My brother and I picked the 2009 Northern Mariana Island Quarter with it being the last of the State and Territory quarters made, also with it having the lowest mintage, to search for irregularities, errors, chips, breaks, cuds, etc.

We though we would post these pictures for your entertainment / interest

It also seems that these errors may be fairly common for most to find if you may look for them but seem to have been minted on one date (11-24-09) as we have searched a good many 100 count bags.

    1. The Coconut Tree (Chip)
    2. The Wave (Chip)
    3. The Banner (Chip) Celebrating the end of this specific collection
    4. The "IN" Cud (Chip)
    5. Reverse with Coconut and Banner (Chips) The "IN" chip is on the obverse.

There are a few others but we thought these were the really interesting ones.

None of these are "cuds". These are die chips. A cud, by definition, incorporates the rim and at least a little bit of the field. Die chips are ubiquitous on state quarters, especially those with congested designs.
