CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Canadian Wrong Planchet

    Interesting Canadian Off Metal for viewing. I believe struck on US Nickel planchet. Non-Magnetic and Weighs 4.94 Grams.

    Interesting. Canada strikes so many coins for other countries that it's hard to say whose planchet this is. Canada was making some nickel planchets for the U.S. at this time, so a U.S. 5c planchet is a possibility. The weight certainly matches. On the other hand, the incompletely formed rim and presence of metal flow suggests that the starting size of the planchet was smaller than a Canadian 5c coin.

      Sorry I failed to mention that the coin was struck as a quarter not a nickel. It's one of those 25 cent commemorative issues "Pride". I too heard that the Canadian mint made 5 cent planchets for the US Mint in 1999 and 2000.
