CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1946-P Off Metal?

    Was wondering if anyone would comment on this coin as to whether it might be struck on a foreign planchet, more specifically a Cuban or Venezuelan planchet. It weighs 38.6 grains or 2.5 grams. There is some weakness in the strike, especially the reverse. The color does appear to be a tad grayer than normal. Thanks,

    It is definitely under weight and the strike does look weak. I think the best way to find out what the coin is , is for someone who is experienced in errors examine it. Mike Diamond is of course the person of choice in this matter.

      I am not aware of any off-metal coins in this year. This appears to be a cent struck on a planchet punched out of rolled-thin cent stock.
