Which design element is this supposed to replicate?

Mike you're talking to a newbie here so I don't understand "design element". I am going to pull a guess out and understand you to ask what is the error from> I'm guessing from seeing other like errors that is a doubling of the column (the column being the design element?). The pic and description is on John Wexlers site under new listings.2003c WDDR-032. If you care to look maybe that will answer your question and you can then educate me on the meaning.

"design element" just means part of the design of the coin. In this case the question is what part of the back (lincoln's head, lincoln's feet, a column, steps, whatever) was the source of the doubled part. Did Mr. Wexler say if that part came from a particular part of the back or did he just say it was a doubled die w/o getting specific about what it was that was doubled?

Wexler says that "Doubling shows on the lower left side of the 7th Memorial column." He does not identify the design element it's supposed to duplicate. Without a match-up to any recognizable design element, I don't see how anyone could be confident it's a doubled die.

It is a partial seventh column. This is very typical single squeeze doubled die.

Well I want to say congrats on your find, as small as it is . Its a win win situation especially for a newbie.I have a bunch of these doublings that would make new listings. I think its a waste of money sometimes to have certon errors attributed.

                Thanks coin-crazy for the kudos.

I agree that it is probably a waste of money to send those but it confirms to me that it indeed an error. Since I found that one I now have four in my collection that may or may not be sold at some point. I now know what the error looks like and can, if I wish sell it knowing that I'm not ripping anyone off. Just an education for me.

And to be honest it's kinda cool showing my name attributed to something to show off to my grandkids. Two so far.....the cent dd and the dropped letter Polk that made Numismatic News July 15. When younger I got a rush from jumping out of planes.....now older I find my small rushes where I can.
