  • 2011 proof quarter

On the obverse the letters in "United States of America" and "Quarter Dollar" it seems that the frosting is missing on the sides of the letters and on several letters it looks like doubling although I doubt that that is the case. The pics are bad because I haven't learned to take pics through plastic holders yet.

I can't tell if it's machine doubling or improperly applied frosting on the die face. Your photos are inadequate to make a determination.

Mike, you did an article Feb 21 2011 in Coin World showing a pic of a 2007 dollar that looks very similar to what I have in fact when I found the coin I went right to your article and verified what I thought I was seeing. I'm still not positive but it looks like I have that issue.

If that's the case, then it's a rather neat find.

I'd like it verified by someone but I'm hesitant to break up the holder....I know that it's the coin that has value not the holder but being new to this.....I guess I'd like to know there is some value before I break it open. Would you be able to identify the error, or variety with it encased?

I'd say dnt take it out unless having it attributed going to add more value. If its minor value let it stay.

Thanks CoinCrazy that was pretty much my thought. I haven't a clue as to value or how to find such.

I find that it's the obverse face of the Chickasaw quarter that is affected. Anyway, it proved to be machine doubling. It's not a frosting error. -- Mike

                        proof

Mike being that it is a proof do you think there would be a premium for it? If not back to the mint it goes.

Any premium would be exceedingly modest, in my opinion.

Thanks Mike it's going in my granddaughters inheritance of errors, or in this case unusual coins. Good luck on your health.
