  • Native American 2000 P 1 dollar "F" to feather error

I just opened a roll of 2000 P Sacagawean dollars that came directly from the mint 11 years ago. The whole role has the letter "F" on OF, on the reverse, flowing into the feather. No definition between where the feather ends on the letter F. Has anyone else found this error on there 2000 P Sachs. Also, a couple of the dollars had what appeared to be die chafing marks across AMERICA. See attached photos. Thanks.

Before we can offer an opinion, you'll need to provide close-up photos of the alleged error and a photo of a normal comparison coin.

That helps. The smooth merger of the feather tip with the F is probably caused by die wear. The AM was scraped after the coin was struck. In other words, post-strike damage.

          Mike,
Thanks for the info pertaining to the "F" flowing into the feather, I'm assuming this is a normal occurance, and not really considered an error? Also, those chafing marks on the "AM" of America, continue completely across the word America. I can send photos if you need. Is that still something that happened after the strike? I really do appreciate all your expert opinions. Thanks again. Rlloyd57.

The merger of the letter and feather would not be considered an error. The scrapes across AMERICA clearly occurred after the strike. The relief has been lowered and fresh, bright metal has been exposed.
