- - WE TRUST Lincoln
Is it considered a mint error if the words IN GOD are missing from a AU 1996-D Lincoln? The area of the normal cent is clean and smooth as a baby's butt with no signs of having been removed once it left the mint. The area is bright and shiney and flawless with the exception of the missing words. The words WE TRUST are also flawless. If not a mint error then what?? Is there any interest in the hobby for what I believe to have been a clogged die? Would PCGS have a classsification for this? thanksTags: None

More than likely it is a gunk filled die, or in this case, gunk filled "IN GOD" that cause those letters to be missing. As far as extra value, or collector interest, I am sure there is some, but to what degree I do not know.
I am not sure if PCGS would encapsulate this coin with that nomenclature, however, there are alternatives, such as ANACS, that will.
