  • 1998-P Dime Reverse questions...

Here are two pics of the reverses of 1998-P dimes. I have noticed some small differences and wanted to know if these are errors. The first picture is the one in question. Compared to the second picture which I've compared with others which seem to have normal features. I have questions about a lot of areas but would like some opinions on what features you think there are problems with. I'm sorry for not being so specific because I would like to know what others think before I point the problems out. Thank you!

I do see minute difference in both coins that have been struck. One of the Laurel leaves appears to have a small die chip, while other areas seem to have lettering in the EPU that appears to have a small amount of extra thickness.

However, all the differences are a bit to minor to draw attention from the average collector.

Thanks for the reply wavysteps. I have circled the other areas I have concern with. Here is a list: 1. One of the flames on the torch looks like it touches the "S" in STATES (is it a die crack?) and another one of the flames looks to have a split in it. 2. There is a raised area of metal under the "M" in AMERICA. 3. The letters "NUM" appear to have doubling to the north. 4. On the branches to the right of the torch I have circled what looks to be more doubling. 5. On the branches to the left of the torch I have circled a branch that should have a slight curve in it, but does not, it appears to be more straight.

The flame touching the letter is more than likely a small die crack. The doubling appears to be machine doubling. The rest of the anomalies can be attributed to die wear.
