A coin can be manipulated and still have a rim. It is just that most of the time, people who do this sort of manipulation are not wise enough to leave the rim in tact.
As for this being struck through a die cap, no. It is the hammer die that is involved with a capped die and unless this was a reverse die set up (the reverse die was the hammer die), this would not happen. I also discount a weak strike since the obverse does not seem affected.
That leaves two options; struck through grease or manipulated outside of the mint. In my opinion, it has been manipulated outside the mint.Member of: ANA, CCC, CONECA, Fly-in-club, FUN, NLG & T.E.V.E.C.

Thanks
Thanks BJ! That was the info I needed. So that means the Obverse would be the side effected not reverse. I was starting to lean toward PMD anyway. The edge doesn't have any dents like someone beat it on something to produce a rim, but the edge does appear to be slightly curved. It is not flat like normal.
