  • 1973-S Eisenhower $1 TRIPLE Die Reverse

    I posted this on another forum and they suggested I post it here.

    Found this 1973-S Eisenhower Dollar in a tube of them I bought. I can't find any reference to, or information about a Tripled reverse on this coin. Some elements appear to quadrupled.

    I'd appreciate any feed-back about this coin.

    I cannot add to your information, though I can confirm it is a doubled die. I can see your point concerning it being a tripled die as well. Have you tried the "IKE Group" forum?

      It looks like more than a triple spread in some places...did you try to us the CONECA Master Listings to attribute it?

        The CONECA master list only shows double die reverse for the 1973-S $1.

        I didn't know there was and IKE group. I'll look for it here and post this.

        Odd thing about this coin that seems to defy logic is that there are elements that are doubled, some that are definitely tripled and others that sure look quadrupled.

          When you see PR-1-R-II-C (6) in the listings, the (6) means sextuple spread. When you see Series Doubling/Series Doubling in the description, that means the coin has series doubling on the obverse and reverse, which is the doubling you see on your dollar like the designers initials or the craters. Maybe someone can explain this better.

            Here is a comprehensive list of the elements doubled, tripled and quadrupled or more on this coin.
            Obverse: 7 in date doubled
            Reverse: STATES doubled, OF tripled, AMERICA quadrupled and more, STARS double & quadrupled +, E PLURIBUS doubled, EYE BROW doubled, UPPER EYE LID tripled(?), EYE doubled, LOWER EYE LID doubled, LOWER BILL doubled, MOON, ALL ELEMENTS tripled, TAIL FEATHERS doubled, INTERIOR TAIL FEATHERS doubled, LAURAL BRANCH, ALL LEAVES AND BRANCH quadrupled +, ALL CRATERS quadrupled +, HORIZON LINE tripled, INITIALS, quadrupled +ONE DOLLAR quadrupled +.

            So would that be PR-1-R-?-all directions (2,3,4 +). Something like that?

                So I don't see a coin listed that matches this one.

                Am I right or does;

                "When you see PR-1-R-II-C (6) in the listings, the (6) means sextuple spread. mean this coin is already listed?

                  You have the dollar in hand...are you sure it doesn’t match anything already listed?
