  • Error 1983 quarter die crack

    Hello All,

I am new to coin collecting in general. Then this whole new world of finding errors opened to me, when I started reading different books and magazines. So thanks for having an organization dedicated to that subject alone!

Here is a 1983 Quarter I found that I believe has a die crack. It is interesting to me because it "appears" to weave in and out behind the leaves and letter, almost giving it the illusion of being an extra branch or thorn.

What are your thoughts, and is there any extra value in a die crack like this?

    Thanks!

A nice little die crack. My opinion is if you like it keep it. As far as extra value, not really. You may find a die crack collector on ebay and get maybe a buck or so on a good day. Seeing that you are new to this, if you keep searching, you will run into a ton of these type of cracks. I used to keep all of these when I first started and they just piled up like crazy. I now keep them if they are at least over half of the coin, go off in multiple directions, or arc from rim to rim like the start of a cud. That is just my preference. Good luck searching!

      Thanks for the reply.

Ya, I'll most likely keep it. It is an interesting little crack to me. It almost appears to weave in and out of the branch, and then go behind the lettering.
