  • 2000P South Carolina Quarter "Extra Branch"??

Good morning all. I picked this 2000P South Carolina quarter and recall reading somewhere about the “extra branch” between the bird’s feet on the reverse. Now that I have located an example, I can’t find my original reference to learn more. Any information or opinions on this coin are appreciated.

I read the same thing somewhere, and I too can't remember where. I think it was on another forum. Let me look around a minute.

Sorry, I can't find it. Good luck.

        Hi,

It's listed in the book Strike It Rich with Pocket Change. They value it at $2 - $15.

        Nice catch!

That's it! I thought I was going crazy. Hadn't open that book in awhile. I saw there is a 2013 version out so I bought it this morning.

          Thanks luckyr!

I hated to, but listed this quarter on eBay this morning... Gotta fund my habit.

I can agree on that. But, this is nothing more than a die gouge, in the right place, to have a name affixed to it. Whether it will catch on is yet to be seen.

                Me too

I hate to be a "me too" person but I found a South Carolina "Extra Branch" three weeks ago. It is an AU coin too. It is one I have been searching for since I first found out about it. I still do not have a Minnesota "extra trees" quarter, but I keep looking.

I find it interesting that in the course of looking thru rolls of coins, it seems at times there is a theme to finding coins. What I mean by that is that I find particular types of errors in groups. There was a short period probably three months ago that I kept finding 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 double die pennies. then after about four days it stopped. I found about 20 ddo 201? dates in that time.

Another time I found more than 10 1999 Delaware "Spitting Horse," 2 "Spitting Unicorn" and 4 die clashes under the horse's belly all in the same week.

I also found three 1998 Wide "AM" within three days of each other. I have not found any 1999 Wide "AM" Lincolns.

I am still working on finding all 56 states quarters with "die crack obverse @ 7 oclock." I have at least one each of these die cracks on 46 of the state quarters. They may not have high value but I think it will be a cool set. For some reason I have not found any 7 oclock die cracks on any of the territories quarters.

The same thing happened when I started finding 1980 Lincoln DDO's. For about a week and a half I found 8 of them.
