CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1964 nickle tapered planchet or ?

    Trying to identify the error on this coin. Is it a tapered planchet or a grease filled die ? if you know what caused this please share, so I can research it deeper. Thanks

    Neither. The reverse was abraded outside the Mint.

      Mike if I understand right, this is PMD. Like in that something was done to this coin after it was minted. Thanks for your insight.
      Have you ever looked close at the three 1969 pennies ? I posted a question the other day but either it was so far off no felt a need to reply or I posted it in the wrong place. I have noticed over time that the three mints used different styles on the dates. The p mint was very short bunted numbers & the d mint much the same. The s mint had long flowing very tapered tails on the numbers. Then I came across a 1969 s mint and it seems to have a p or d mint style date over the longer style of the 1969. If you care to see photos I left them on the old post and since I have only posted twice it should be easy to find. I have been going through coins and pulling any thing different. I am trying to separate them into the error & varieties they belong in but find it over whelming, Any suggestions ?
