    JFK 50C--'71D/'90P -- No Designer's Initials

I'm an active roll searcher. I've found all of the known dates of JFK halves without designer's initials by searching rolls of these coins. These two halves have not previously been discovered to the best of my knowledge as well as in the opinion of two experts in the field--both commented, independently, that they could not find any reference to either of these two NO INITIALS halves.

I sent them to ANACS to be slabbed and both came back as submitted--without designer's initials designation. However, ANACS did not place the words "DISCOVERY COIN" on the label explaining that that designation can't be verified.

It seems to me it's a "chicken & the egg" situation. How can it be verified if there are no others????

I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments on how to prove conclusively these are discovery pieces OR NOT. Pictures of the reverse of both raw coins, prior to submission are attached. The 1st pix is the '71D; the 2nd is the '90P. The 71D came back "details" MS60 (scratched); the 90P came back MS62.

    Thanks everyone.

Since all "missing initials" errors are simply cases of overzealous intentional die abrasion, and since heavy-handed examples of die abrasion are legion, I'm surprised anyone has bothered to list them. In any case, I don't know how you'd got about determining whether you've found the first known example for a particular year and mintmark.
