Post-strike damage. A contact mark from the edge of another reeded coin.

Thank you I looked at it and it actually looked like it was in the coin, but that is why I joined CONECA to learn. Thank you so much for your time. I will study the coin more so I can identify this in the future. I've seen bag marks and contact marks this one was just different.
Do you have any suggested books besides cherry pickers? Thanks again for your time and trouble

Depends if you're looking for die varieties or mint errors. All the general reference books on the latter subject are now out of print, and none of the major numismatic publishers are interested in producing another. The best online reference is www.error-ref.com. However, only some of the thousands of possible errors are fully described.

Perhaps you can locate a used copy of Alan Herbert's Price Guide to Minting Varieties and Errors (there are 7 editions) or Arnie Margolis' Error Coin Encyclopedia. They provide a good starting point.

I would also recommend a digital subscription to Coin World (about $20). This will give you access to two sets of archives that collectively go back to November, 2007. When you type a keyword into the Search facility, it will bring up all relevant articles.

I have been subscribing to coin world for 5 years now. I haven't read it on line for over a year tho. I will check it out again. I APPRICIATE all of your help
