CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1979P LMC Lamination

    Hello all,

This is my first post here. Some of you may know me from other forums. I'm by no means an error expert but I do run across a few cool ones now and then. I found this 1979 lamination in a box yesterday. I thought you all here might enjoy it.

No sorry needed. I haven't checked coin community forum yet, but if it's there, i'll look again. Some coins just have a "cool factor". To me, this is one of those coins!

This seems to be somewhat of a divisive coin...There are people on both sides saying it is PMD and that it's a legit lamination. Really not sure what to think at this point.

Well, I definitely am no expert, but I see no way to fillet a coin like a fish. The "flap" probably had some help, intentional or not, being pressed flat, but the metal came apart without foul play. I believe this anyway. An error expert could prove me wrong, but I believe it to be a legit lamination.

Very nice example of a lamination.

Well, I can tell you that you have now had some of the experts look at your coin and all have said the same thing. Its a lamination.
I know that Mike Ellis stopped by as did Jason Cuvelier and Ken Potter. Would you like some more?

                    Welcome to CONECA! : )
