A neat coin! Looks like it bumped the die during the strike.Ken Potter

This is not a "sideneck strike" ("one-die saddle strike"). The facet is flat, not concave. These flat facets always lie opposite the base of Jefferson's bust at 6:00, and separated from it by about a centimeter. The location of a sideneck strike will be toward 11:00. The unstruck portion of these nickel planchets is being pushed into some obstruction, but I'm not sure what it is. Possibly the side of a feeder. All I know is that the appearance and location is consistent and that it occurs only in nickels and cents.Last edited by diamond; 08-24-2015, 02:52 PM.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.

In this auction, the nickel on the right shows the same flat facet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/391209947075Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
