CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • A Must read on Monroe dollars on quaarter planchets

This was on the ECIE (Error Coin Information Exchange). Fred (Weinberg) just informed us that the Philadelphia Mint has inadvertently struck a whole bunch of Monroe dollars on quarter planchets. I do consider Fred an extremely reliable source for such information, so be on the lookout for this type error coin.

Now the warning. Since there seems to be more than a few (some estimates are over 10,000 struck coins), don't go jumping on the first one that you see on E-bay for a ridiculous price ($1,000.00 +). Wait for a bit and see what happens.

I heard on the NGC forum that the coin counters caught them before any got out, so they possibly could be a rare find.
