If this "wire rim" takes the form of a thin vertical flange that extends vertically from the rim/edge junction, then you've got a case of finning. Finned rims are a symptom of increased overall striking pressure or increased localized striking pressure due to slight die tilt. Finning is relatively common and only has value when it's extreme.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
