I just received the 2016 first spouse bronze medal set from the mint. Betty Ford has a rim issue. I do not know what one would call it but part of it reminds me of an offset die clash on the rim (similar to the 1996 Lincoln penny). Especially on the lower obverse where it appears to look like partial letters but not of the same font as used on the coin. The upper rim has was appears to be squares instead of the triangle patter of the lower rim. The reverse has similar rim markings but slightly rotate from the obverse rim sets. The edge of the coin shows no marks at all up to the top of the rim. it is smooth. I cannot take a photo of the edge since it is still in the crappy plastic packaging from the mint.

I guess no one has ever seen this mint error. All of these views and no comments.

This is post-strike damage caused by the machine that seals the plastic pockets that surrounds the coin.

Does that mean that it is still a mint error since it took place within the mint? Even though it is not a striking error, is it still is within the minting process?

Although the damage occurred in the Mint, it is not considered a minting error. It has the same value as any other form of post-strike damage -- zero.
