  • 1996P Quarter...FS-25-1996P-701 ??

What do you think? Is this quarter a FS-25-1996P-701 as listed in the Cherry Pickers' Guide? The striations on my quarter are more pronounced and cover more area but are positioned properly. I've posted this question in another forum but apparently nobody has their Cherry Pickers Guide handy.

Looking at your quarter and the one in the CPG there does seem to be a difference. While the die damage may be from the same cause, yours seems to be positioned differently than the one in the CPG

If you notice, the straited lines on the quarter in the CPG end just below the T of LIBERTY (the other set ending even further below that). On your example, the straited lines actually reach the rim below the Y of LIBERTY with the second set below that.

In other words, same type of damage, not the same die.

Thank you! I could tell that there was a quite a difference, but still very similar. If I were to submit it for grading, as an error, what would I call it?

This damage is similar to what is called die scrapes on a Lincoln cent and in fact may even be the same thing.

I am sure that Mike Diamond will take a look at this post and know the correct name for this type damage; he has a much better feel for error coins than I do.

Yes, these are die scrapes. The most likely source is a feed finger.
