I have this Morgan Dollar. It's an 1880-S, Its an MS-67 Proof Like, and she's a beauty. I am trying to figure out what this "damage" area forward of the nose of Miss Liberty is, where the stars meet the rim. To me, under the scope it looks like a pre-strike issue, The star that's close to PUP looks like the damage is below the star. I have two photo's for now that I was able to capture in the correct light without blinding myself or the cameras involved. From these photos, what constitutes a "defective planchet" or, a potential other strike from another coin ? This to me is sort of weird - And I need a bit of assistance on trying to figure out what this is.
I appreciate all comments !
