CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Another coin was hammered into it. We call them hammer jobs or squeeze jobs when a vise is used. It was damaged outside the Mint.

      oh my....

      hmmmm...my notes say i found this coin on a table , in 1977.I am not sure how the date became doubled and even if it is a hammered job how did the words get reversed?

        The coin may have been hammered twice and it shifted its position slightly between impacts. This will create raised doubling of the date. The incuse mirror-image design elements are what happens when normally-oriented raised elements are hammered into another coin. This sort of vandalism is encountered on a regular basis.
