CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1986 Liberty Silver Dollar MD Strike

  • 1986 Liberty Silver Dollar MD Strike

    I have a 1986 Liberty Silver Dollar moderate MD strike that is interesting. The coin is from a 2 coin US Mint Set. The doubling can be clearly be seen on the rim from the 4 o'clock to 10 o'clock positions. The date, pedestal , feet of statue. initials, most lettering, mintmark, water and lower part of building have MD. What is most interesting, and difficult to show in the pictures, is the raised edges (damming or concave appearance) of the MD on the upper edge. Have not seen this before. This can be seen more easily in the closer view of "1" of date below.

    Considering the doubling on the date, this might actually be a doubled die.
