  • 1964 Kennedy obverse (only) surface question

    S20210828_021.jpeg S20210828_020.jpeg

    Hi all,
Is this strange texture and color on the obverse only due to damage? If so, what would do this to a 90% silver coin?
Would appreciate comments and/or sources for looking for such things. I've tried searching on line,
but couldn't adequately describe what kind of surface I should search for.
    Thanks,
    Greg

It's environmental damage. It could be anything. Do you know the history is the coins since it left the mint 57 years ago? Where it's been or how it's been stored. It could have been in an album. The Obv exposed to the elements and the Rev was protected. Your guess is as good as any. It's still worth silver melt value.

This may have been an end of roll coin with the obverse exposed.
