  • 1984-P Lincoln cent. Is this a die chip?

Greetings! I am wondering what you would call this object north of Lincoln's head? Is it a die chip? Also, looking to the right side of the coin, what would cause this straight-line scratch at the mint? Thanks for you thoughts!

I don't think it's a die chip, at least from the photo. Sometimes contaminates get under the copper coating over the zinc and causes those kinds of blistering or bubbles. You might be able to actually poke a pin in it and find it hollow.

I agree. Thats a plating issue and fairly common. Theres no telling what scratched the coin, but its a scratch and PMD
