CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Is this machine doubled?

    Hello !

I do not see a photo attached. That typically happens when it is above the limit set by the admins. A typical good size for a JPEG/JPG photo is 800x800 or smaller. Depending on your operating system, there are several tools that can help you with resizing/cropping.

    Give it another try !

Nope. You were right the first time. Its MD. Even shows on the wings above ONE. Might show some signs of die deterioration too. Nice clear pics. I would try diffusing the light a little more to help with the glare but on this coin, its still MD. Great pics though

Klocc is right on as usual.
If the coin exhibits a step-like feature, it usually indicates the coin has received damage from the minting press.
If the affected area looks like it could be the original size of the letter if they were at the same height, then suspect machine doubling.

Typically the doubled dies will add thickness, or additional width to the area.

The website http://varietyvista.com has some examples of the year you have. Please remember that the doubled area is made on the dies, and that area or pick up points and markers are where your coin should show. The dies then make coins with that condition "stamped" onto the once planchet, now coin. The area of effect doesn't move although over the life of the die, some of the appearance may change.
