  • 2022 Maya Angelou - 'OU' reverse question

Hi All. This was mentioned in another post and I am curious as well.

The 'OU' in ANGELOU on the reverse seems to have a shadow 'OU' next to it. All of these Maya Angelou's I have looked at have this "shadow" so it is common. It is weird but it almost presents as a clash when you are looking at it and moving it in the light but then you realize it is duplicating the letters. So it must be some kind of MD - like push doubling but I cannot seem to find a name for it. Sorry for the glare but that was the only way to get the shadows to show up.

Thanks for any comments / opinions

Ok I guess this is a really dumb question? Or was it already answered? I did search on the forum and did not see this topic covered. Please let me know one way or the other so I will not be in the dark with my ignorance

I see what you are talking about. In looks almost like a shadow.
I'd have to see one of these in hand in order to say what it is. But let us ponder a bit.
IF it is on multiple dies in the same basic area, then it may be related to a small defect in the master hub which makes the dies.
It looks like the area dented the die. When they made the dies, there might have been a little too much pressure involved or something in the creation of the die(s) was done slightly wrong.

It's truly difficult to know at this point. If I find one of these with that issue, I will put it under the scope.

Is this a Philadelphia coin or a Denver?
