CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1980 1c off metal or environmental?

    Hello,

Weight is 2.6g and slightly smaller in diameter and thinner but how does one tell the difference between being off metal or environmental? Non magnetic. Thanks again

That environment damage. Looks like it was buried or burned. Or both

Thank you Kloccwork419 I was a bit confused by the difference in strike as to how some letters appeared especially in Liberty. Some are raised while some are barely visible.

Yeah Klocc is right...it's just a damaged coin.
This is simply just thinner probably from the damage it was involved with.
Not sure what it was but it wasn't good for the coin.
It could have easily been subjected to an acid treatment.
A wad of ketchup on a copper coin can do some nasty things.

Should you find something in better condition and a possible off metal or otherwise, suggest reading this post it may give you some ideas.
