Post mint damage or some type of clip/sheet edge?
Do you think someone trimmed the edges of this penny or could this have come from the mint? I remember seeing someone cut through part of a penny in a scissor's sales demo one time... Impressive task for scissors but a tragedy for the pennyYou do not have permission to view this gallery.

yes, to me it looks like some one did it post mint. The angle photo looks like it was done not too long ago as the metal looks "fresh" and not 100+ years old.
There is something called the Blakely's effect that I look for when looking for clipped planchets. Its looks sort of crumbled in the center of the curved clips and though this is straight, it seems unnatural. There is supposed to be an area of weakness on the strike since the coin does not fill the entire die.
That metal, shouldn't be that shiny for 100+ years old. Tarnish, grime and handling should have dulled that down to almost unnoticeable.
The cuts appear to be nearly perfect, and think of this - TYPICALLY if this is the edge of a metal sheet, you shouldn't have this combination of edges on a sheet. Any other combos would make sense, to make it a corner piece - but this one does not.Gary Kozera
