1955 JEFFERSON NICKEL - TOM NEEDS A SHAVE!
I am looking at a very nicely toned 1955 Jefferson Nickel. Yawn...(No really!) The coin is straight from an old double mint set. The coin is fabulous and has 5 full steps which is very rare this year. There is some kind of anomaly under the chin and down the neck and collar. What is going on here? It appears to me to be struck through grease? I simply have no clue. There is also something on the back of his neck that looks like stretch marks and struck through grease. I think Tom needs a shave! Thoughts or comments?Last edited by rbroederer; 04-12-2022, 08:51 PM.Tags: None

It could be splatter marks from grease, but it's right near the edge of the field. It could vert well have been an over zealous mint worker attempting to polish the field and scrubbed right into the die design just a bit. If the majority of those lines look like scratches, suspect polishing. If it it random and blotchy suspect a grease or minor strike through event.Gary Kozera
