  • Rotated Die Questions

Take a look at photos 1& 2. When I flip the nickel over it appears I have a rotated die. How do I know if this is a CW or CCW rotation? If it’s a CCW rotation, it’s just a minor one and the value is nominal. If this is a CW rotation this coin has nearly rotated 360 degrees and I have a quite valuable coin. How do I tell the difference?

Also in pic number 3. Where can I find Mylar flips like these? I have looked on eBay and Google and cannot seem to find them. Any idea? Thanks!

The rotated die flip was made by a guy named Allen in 1991 he use to sell them with a little book explain rotated dies. I don't think does them anymore but the first link below is for one being sold on eBay, they are pricey. The second link is the the guys website. It has his email address. Based on what I know your coin is rotated CCW but not sure. I hope this helps.

Wow. Thank you PNWMAKES. That’s the first straight answer I’ve been able get about the flips and where they come from. I appreciate the links. I’ll check em out. Yes, from the way I see it that is a CCW rotation. I saw a pic today where it the coin was said to have had a “270 degree CW rotation. How is that possible? It would seem to me the best you could get for either direction would be 180 degrees. And if you have a rotation that is EXACTLY 180 degrees how do you know whether it was a cw or CCW rotation? I don’t know. ‍♂️ What I do know is the greater the rotation the more you can command for the coin. So if I have a coin rotated at the 9:00 position is it a 90 degree ccw rotation or a 270 degree clockwise rotation?? It makes a HUGE difference in value especially if you plan on selling the coin. I appreciate your input and thank you for the links!
