1963 D ROOSEVELT DIME STRUCK THROUGH, LAMINATION OR WHAT?
I am looking at a very nice 1963 D Roosevelt dime that I removed from a mint set years ago. A closer look at the mouth reveals an anomaly that has me stumped. It is rectangular in shape and I thought it was a struck through at first. Then I thought something was still on the coin. The last pics show the anomaly in higher magnification and rotating it up to 45 degrees. The bottom line of the anomaly now looks like at was torn open. I have no clue. The first photo Looks like the area heads northwest, towards Roosevelt's nostril. The small area within the box, I cannot tell if that is simply a portion that was struck through debris, or not. The additional line heading northwest, close to the the cheek line is hinting at a die break, in my opinion.Gary Kozera

Hello Gary, There seems to be several things going on. I have modified and attached the last pic which was taken on about a 45 degree angle. The yellow arrows are what looks like the metal is torn apart. The red arrows look like deep parallel contact points. The circled with black area looks raised up. All of this in a tiny compact location. Thoughts or comments? Cheers, Bruce.Attached FilesLast edited by rbroederer; 07-26-2022, 10:22 PM.
