CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    2022 D Jefferson Nickel - weird nickel thing #2

    Hi All. I found this roll hunting and there are maybe 10 more like it in the roll. These areas are raised, just two on the obverse as shown. Just mysterious to me, especially since there are multiples of same. So it must be on the die? Is that correct thinking? Any thoughts are welcome.

    Yes, more than likely a die gouge. It's life expectancy on the number of coins it could be seen on is hard to determine. It could be thousands to hundreds of thousands. Depends if it is removed by wear and tear or maintenance. It also depends if it is pretty well protected and unnoticed.
