I’ve heard several discussions on this, but have never heard a final decision of DD or MD. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Is it just me or does it seem that there is much more MD since 2000 than years prior?

Remember - especially on quarters they used an incused design which pushes an image into the coin. I am pretty positive that having both a "normal" design and portions incused will lead to more machine doubling, especially in later die stages as things get worn.

Since 2003, less errors are escaping the mint.
Even attempts from insiders are being squleched.
So, it is slim pickings for roll hunters on errors that are considered major.
Same within bags, but might have a slightly higher chance for success.

If you go the bag route, just ensure it is direct from the US Mint or one of its affiliates.

So, with that in mind because of the rarity of escapees, the value of both DD and MD coins should increase as more collectible?

Machine doubling will never be worth anything. Its not an error, it's simply damage - period.

Anyone willing to sell machine doubling for profit is selling to uneducated people, or mislabeling, misleading or wrong attribution. I haven't heard (nor looked for) anyone suing people for this, but I bet some legal action could be done.

As for the doubled dies, RPMs and certified errors, eventually they will dry up.

But as the saying goes.... "The collectible is only as valuable as the collector is willing to pay for it."
