CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

It might be a "missing clad layer" error. It's in decent shape. If you would like a CONECA opinion, you can start a post under the CONECA SERVICES forum, under examinations. Some one will look at the coin and determine what it is. They may even want to see it in hand.

Just bewarned, people sometimes spend too much time in their garage and while bored, the will do weird stuff to coins. The coin you have hasa legit shot tobe authetic, in my opinion.

I have found several also, years 80’s, 90’s and 2000. Actually mistook As a cent at first glance. Make sure you share your conclusion when you reach it.

I’ve always liked this one, the lack of the “silver” clad seemed to have created an art of its own.

I just remembered this post you presented and wondered about your info progress. I thought I would share another favorite with you.
I call it the “rose torch”. It is much nicer at hand. I have also found several quarters and halves with a copper glow to them. Thin clad layer. hope you don’t mind the share to your original post.
