Can you give us a photo of the reverse? A clear focused one comparable to your first obverse photo.
It almost has the look of a struck though a capped die, but the cap broke off and adhered to the obverse ? It almost looks like struck through fragment like. It is....different.
I am going to have to ponder this one for a bit.
It could have been some messing around and attempted to retool this and gave up early. It could be one one many scenarios. The fact that it is well circulated and still has the details, is concerning.
What i mean by that is, depending on how long the coin was in circulation, would it show less of this issue if it was done inside the US mint ?
