1955 D Lincoln Wheat Cent Penny Extra D or a die Chip

    Hi, and thanks in advance.
I was experimenting with a rose bush thorn as for eliminating the gunk that sometimes surrounds your coin. I worked beautifully.
Got exited and so I decided to work on those old coins that I have kept for years but was afraid to damage.
This coin is one of them...I dont know what to make of this as I have soaked it now for the 3rd time in Olive Oil then quickly in acetone.
Your opinion is appreciated and respected.
    Thank you!

You should never soak your Lincoln cents in anything but acetone. Just my opinion only.

It looks like the patina is gone. If it is for your personal collection and you like the look, by all means be happy with it.

I did an experiment cleaning coins, and wrote a post about it.

PNWMAKES - pure olive oil won't hurt the coins, some senior coin people I know use it to remove unsightly stains, and it does not affect the patina. One person I know sent some in to a third party grading service after using olive oil, and a sonic cleaner. He'd pull the coin out, dip in in isopropyl alcohol for a few seconds and light dab it with a paper towel the let air dry.

Cleaning coins is a risk and potentially may reduce their value and grade, do so at your own risk.
