  • Jefferson nickel die rust?

I found this coin in a roll and it appears to have had rust on the die that left scarring on Jefferson but not in the fields Die cracks on both sides as well. I thought rust would leave raised marks. This is pitting. Is this considered an error? Rust Obverse.jpg

It looks a bit more like struck through to me. Almost like a light spray of oil hit the surface and the droplets traveled to the deepest parts of the die face. JMHO.

Hummm I guess it could be considered an error, but I don't know how collectible a Jefferson nickeI struck with a rusted die is. I have never met any one that collects them.
