CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2020-D 5C Double Monticello?

I have several 1939 Double Monticello nickels. I’d like your opinions on this 2020-D. The “O” is especially convincing.

Thing to remember here is the way they did doubled dies prior to 1996 was different than it is now. Before, it was multiple impressions on a single working die. Now is supposedly only a single high pressure squeeze.

A couple things i would suggest. If taking photos, do so raw. When they are in mylars, they wont let the camera focus on the coin using auto focus. Collages don't do us any good. Nice art, but I personally cannot magnify that large enough to have a good look what's going on.

Brian's website appears to be down at the moment but it has both double die listings and coins for sale that can be used for self attribution.

If you are convinced it has a chance at a DDR, go to the main CONECA forum page. Under CONECA SERVICES, start a new post under the ATTRIBUTIONS area with as much detail as you can supply, with good clear focused photos. Some one from CONECA staff will respond.
