1982 D Copper Over Date or DDO?
Aloha all, I came across this 1982 D penny that weighs 3.1 grams. Looking at it through my loupe I thought it was a DDO. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the number 2 in the date looked strange. I don’t know if this is a DDO or a large date over small date. Take a look at the last picture. Thoughts???Tags: None

There aren't and 1982 small over large dates. The most popular one is the 1960-D.
In my opinion, this one looks like die deterioration. The dies when new and crisp make amazing looking coins. When these dies have stuck several hundred thousands of coins, the dies do get worn down and loose. The struck coins become fuzzy and the dies might slip just a tad or show inconsistencies, and this looks like die deterioration to me.
Here are a few listings. If you think it is still a doubled die, you'd need to match up the pick up points / markers. This coin you have will have to match pretty close to the examples shown. Doubled dies do not move as they are multiple impressions on those working dies, and the doubling does not move...
