CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

Hello.....thanks for posting your nickel however your coin is not a mint error but appears to be a "dryer coin", which is a coin that got stuck in a clothes dryer drum for some time. The color does look like it could be a counterfeit made from some sort of lead alloy. Either way, it's not a mint error. Did you weigh the coin?

did you see how strong the doubling is? especially on the rev.

i'm wondering if it is struck with false dies?

for my part, i gotta say, for it to be authentic is virtually nil.

Thank you for the replies and information. I really thought it might be a counterfeit and didn’t know about the “dryer” coin issue. I’m new at error coin collecting and glad to learn new and valuable information, thanks again
