CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

I don’t think the designer had this in the drawing. (2009 Sacagawea, in proof slab)

      Definitely.!

The real point (irony) of this post is, the designer puts his heart into the details and precision, the manufacturing of the mint presses and proof dies are held to a standard in their compliance and tolerances, and then the floor crews and overseers at the mint allow coins with errors like this to pop out in the thousands devaluing the proof status that others who have pride and accountability in their work, strived to perfect. I’m breaking this one out and putting it into circulation. At least it might make someone’s day in a roll hunt and then they can post it here wondering why it’s not a double die….lol thought for today

        ya.

i've made that point before with some of the early 1790/1800s usa coinage when they did the adjustment marks to the flans to try and save miniscule amounts of silver which essentially ruined the entire beauty of the coins of which they had already put sooooo much time, effort, money, talent etc into. darn near a paradox.
