It happens to many dies. That working die strikes close to a million coins, It loses its brand new look over time and with all those strikes, it quickly ages a die - or both. Cracks appear and eventually, the die is replaced. Again, it happens a lot. Unless the cracks are super dramatic, the value of these type issues is not much if anything.
If this is something you collect, great. Happy Hunting.

Better odds within the years 1950 thru 1960. I have had thousands of die crack examples. This is one from the 1950s.

maybe to the tpgs but as i understand it, the mints are the ones to denote errors and an die crack/break error would be determined by whether or not they deemed small cracks/breaks outside a set of parameters to be acceptable or not. since the mints allow for a range of variance for a few different specs, i doubt they would consider some small barely noticeable cracks errors. that is the measure i use. that being said, obviously cracks/breaks etc are fun to study and can carry a premium obviously. that being said, perhaps this category is the best place for cracks/breaks as they don't really seem to fit better anywhere else.Originally posted by Shane Daniel View Post

Yes, and based on the consensus here, severity would be the discriminating factor. A miniscule event would have no home here. As the event progresses, the event does become more and more applicable to the forum.Originally posted by occnumis2021 View Post

I concur that most must be within mint tolerance since they are so common. :-)Originally posted by occnumis2021 View Post
