CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Die gouges

So it was determined this is not a DDO-004 but what about the area above “In God We Trust” are these die gouges?

The thinner line between O and D in GOD might be a strike through fiber, Its difficult to see if it is also on the letters themselves. The other lines look sunk into the coin, and may be die deterioration, but again, its difficult to know for sure since the coin is not in hand nor are the photos absolutely clear.

I thought for a brief second it might be a "die damage" example, but the only one I have left is not from your coin year. have a look. If the lines near GOD are raised, let me know.

i agree with M.E., the thing going through the letters on the coin in the OP, looks like a struck-through fiber or something with a small chance it is plating related but either way, not diagnostically relevant. there may be some instances where a strike through appears on some coins with the same variety but doesn't appear on all of them but gotta be a very rare occurrence.

you will notice with zlincolns, the tend to have a raised dome/tunnel shape around the legend (where the letters and stuff are at). just an artifact of their creation/production process. it CAN look like severe deep concentric polishing but it is not. it appears on too many and different dates/mm to be that.

      but i digress.
